Day 15

Last night I told you
that if I was a plant
I would be Ivy:
growing, stretching,
delicate,
I flower but don’t have flowers.

I might have lied though,
I’m not really very delicate at all.
And sometimes,
well most of the time
I dress like I have flowers.
I am growing though.

You said you’d be aloe vera:
hard on the outside,
soft on the inside,
healing and useful.
A very practical plant.

I think that was a humble-brag,
you are very proud of your function,
your doing.

The last thing my mother told me was:
Remember that you are a
human being not a human doing.

My value as a plant or otherwise
is not measured in my function or my use.
My value lies in my breathing.
Most of the time,
it’s okay to just exist.
